Frequently Asked Questions
How much will it cost?
That’s very much down to you, its pay as you go with no obligation or pressure sales. Location shoots begin at £120, and studio shoots at £60 which includes all costs up to the preview. I sell loose prints that start from a very reasonable £35 each, and offer high resolution files for home printing and self produced Christmas cards etc. Contact me for a full price list.
Location or studio shoot?
For natural relaxed portraits with backdrops rich in texture, and the added emotional content that comes with the inclusion of familiar surroundings, it has to be location. For a clean minimalist look, something fashionesque or high key, the studio has it all.
Won't portraits at home just look like our own snaps?
Not at all, and you don't need to live in a stately home either. The exclusive use of window light will darken and soften familiar and everyday backgrounds into complimentary textures leaving subtle hints of home that provoke the memory as time passes.
Does it need to be a bright sunny day?
Absolutely not, the diffused light of dull days is far easier to control and far more flattering for location portraits than direct sunlight.
How long will it take?
There is no fixed time, and never a rush. As a rule though, studio shoots last an hour, and location shoots two hours which flies by amongst the general fun and excitement.
How far will you travel?
The location shoot fee covers travel within a 30 mile radius of the studio. I regularly travel further, and charge £1 a mile one way.
What should we wear?
Striking portraits have simple elements that don’t detract from the subject. As a general rule, avoid spots, stripes, patterns, and logos. Why not make a start with something elegant, and as you relax into the shoot, put your favourite casual togs on.
What if my children run riot?
No problem, as a dad of two I am quite used to high spirits, and strong wills. A laid back approach usually wins through in time.
A portrait photographer captures the rapport he has with his subject, and in so doing gives a little of himself away. Have another look through the gallery.
Can we have our pets in the photographs?
Absolutely! All special requests catered for. Its important that shoots are fun for everyone involved.
How and when do we see our pictures?
Two weeks from shoot to preview is the usual turn around time. Most people come to the studio for a fun preview on the big screen, which is especially good for scrutinising group shots. Password protected web previews are available for family, friends, and those that live miles away.
